Four Corners - Mesa Verde, CO

Image
Leaving Bryce, we had another long travel day of 7 hours to Mesa Verde. Stopping at Four corners before entering into Colorado. From our research the reservation closed at 4:45pm, we thought at sunset, bummer. We took a few photos just to remember we were there, even though we couldn't put one foot in all four states. We continued on our way to the mesa. We pull into Mesa Verde RV Resort gotta love when an RV park says resort, cause its not! Pool closed, WiFi was super spotty and no cable hook up. The showers were decent and the laundry facility was in check, so that was good. Enjoyed chatting with a girl from New Orleans, her and her husband were staying a week at a time at places places. She mentioned some friends that she has in Bellingham, WA and we laughed at the RV pros/ cons lifestyle! Elisha and Scott with a dog and a cat, they were fun, wish we had more time to hang out with them. Elisha mentioned she been at four corners a couple times, she says the geographical  coordin

Today was a short 2 hour travel day to Bryce, staying at Ruby's Inn. A great little cowboy town with old west appeal. We settled in and replenished the kitties, we also enjoyed a nice fire that night with a stone fire pit. Morning came, caught up on school and work, by mid afternoon we took the shuttle to the entrance of the NP across the street from the RV park. We couldn't locate Kingston's NP home school free pass so a kind couple of guys let us use their pass to get on the shuttle. We decided to hike the rim, 2 miles maybe...gorgeous views and such a magical place. I came here in high school 31 years ago, I was 16, a mid west girl having never seen mountains, I was in awe. So happy to bring my family here and maybe one day K will bring his.

Zion National Park

After a 7 hour drive we made it to Zion stayed at the Zion Canyon RV park. The sunset was gorgeous and we took a bike ride into town ( just a mile down the road) to check out some Zion merch. I was so in awe of the colors and mountains  I tripped going up the steps, other than being slightly embarrassed I was fine. There were e-bikes everywhere in this cute little town. Radbikes for rent here and there and cute restaurants lined the streets. K & I got up early the next morning to get a replacement vessel for my camelback. We only booked 1 night at Zion, as that's all that was available. James finished unplugging and pack up the RV , we pulled out and made our way into the park. After arriving we learned riding your e-bike right on through Zion Canyon was the thing to do, did I mention there were e-bikes everywhere?! So fun!

Las Vegas, NV

We got up early and made our way to Las Vegas, about an 8 hour drive. It's hard on the cats on travel day. We stopped putting them in their kennels because they would just cry. Now we've managed to put the back bed cushions a certain way to enclose them so they don't bounce around and they can be together and also a couple sprays of pheromone spray to help with stress. They get outside a few days a week and sit in the sunshine and fresh air. We pulled into Oasis RV park, it was the bomb, so we decided to stay 2 extra days! It was totally worth it to rest, catch up on work, school & laundry.  Kingston and I went to the pool that night, checked the camp store (always a fan of  a cool camp store lol) and the cafe that served up some good comfort food. They even had a concierge on site to help with booking shows or events, didn't expect this from an RV park, but then again we were in Vegas! James and I remembered when we were here 10 years ago for his 40th bday a clien

San Simeon - Las Vegas

Image
We left Big Sur to boondock (no power or hook ups) or one night in San Simeon. On our way to San Simeon we went to a restaurant called Whale Watchers Cafe, we did not see any whales though. We also stopped by Elephant Seal Beach to see a bunch of pregnant seals on the beach, a strange place but cool to see their big bellies about to have a baby. Ok, ok there is one more place we stopped, Hearst Castle. William Hearst's Dad was a very wealthy minor. Their family also liked to camp on their acres of property. When Willam's Dad died, William inherited everything, being an only child and all. William started a newspaper company and decided to build a castle with the land his family had camped on. He built a huge castle, with two pools, cottages for the guests, and a zoo for all animals to feel free.  We got to our campsite that night in San Simeon. Just before sunset we took a bike ride down to the coast, we had a fire and then went to sleep. During the night our battery died, but
