Las Vegas, NV
We got up early and made our way to Las Vegas, about an 8 hour drive. It's hard on the cats on travel day. We stopped putting them in their kennels because they would just cry. Now we've managed to put the back bed cushions a certain way to enclose them so they don't bounce around and they can be together and also a couple sprays of pheromone spray to help with stress. They get outside a few days a week and sit in the sunshine and fresh air. We pulled into Oasis RV park, it was the bomb, so we decided to stay 2 extra days! It was totally worth it to rest, catch up on work, school & laundry.
Kingston and I went to the pool that night, checked the camp store (always a fan of a cool camp store lol) and the cafe that served up some good comfort food. They even had a concierge on site to help with booking shows or events, didn't expect this from an RV park, but then again we were in Vegas! James and I remembered when we were here 10 years ago for his 40th bday a client of mine had told me of a great old school Italian restaurant, Bootlegger's. We made a reservation for Tuesday night since they were completely booked for Monday. It was as good as we remember!
We finally made it to the strip on Wednesday that week. We booked America's Got Talent show for that night and Michael Jackson show for Thursday. We rode the e-bikes about 3 miles to Mandalay Bay, since we were staying on the south end of the strip and with the crowds people that walk the strip we chose MB as our base to lock the bikes up and walk from there. Vegas is definitely not the most bike friendly town, people looked confused when we asked where we could lock our bikes up. We finally found the south parking lot on level 2 as somewhat of a bike lock place, it was kind of a pain.
We headed to New York New York to ride the roller coaster and check out the Hersey's store. Never knew how much stuff Vegas has for kids. Grabbed a slice of at Sirrico's Pizza, wow it was great NY pizza no wonder it's rated 5 stars, we ended up hitting this place up again before the MJ show!
Thursday was our last day for Vegas indulgence. Although the Oasis RV park had great pool we thought we'd upgrade for the day, so I booked a daybed at the Mandalay Bay pool for the day. James had to catch up on work and file our taxes so K & I headed out early, but took an uber this time (didn't want to deal with the bikes). Wave pool, lazy river, food & drinks served right to our umbrella spot in the sand, was so great! James met up with us and we did some more sight seeing on the strip, he took K to the arcade and I thought I'd try my luck on the slots for a bit. Blew $150 within 45 mins, was up then down, and so on - you know how that goes! We made our way back to the pool for a couple hours since we had it until 6pm. From there we went to the MJ show, which we all debated either MJ or Beatles, but it was a phenomenal show!
Leaving Las Vegas that next day, we were ready to go, you can really only stand so much of Vegas, it's just a lot. I was nursing a pretty bad spider bite on my inner thigh, no idea where I got it from but then again our lifestyle right now is pretty rugged! We were all starving so we stopped at Wendy's and I needed to call my sister Heather, as my Mom (arthritis/ back spine pain) had been admitted in the hospital the night before. Everything seemed fine for now, Mom was in good hands and it was nice to catch up with Heather. Mom has been back in Michigan for 2 months and just seems her lifestyle and diet has taken a plunge since all of her 9 months in Seattle of great care, ugh.
